Meet our graduate students
In 2021–25 the Network funded three graduate studentships for Iraqis and Syrians, to be held at UCL. Ms Wesam Youssef began an MA in Ancient History in 2024. Mr Warsheen Mirani started an MSc in Sustainable Heritage in 2025.
Niyan Hussein Ibrahim
Niyan Hussein Ibrahim, the first recipient of the UCL - Nahrein Network Graduate Studentship, completed her MSc in Sustainable Heritage at The Bartlett Institute for Sustainable Heritage. She is now undertaking a PhD degree in the same department, also fully funded by the Nahrein Network.
Niyan is an urban planner at Sulaymaniyah Antiquities Directorate and a co-founder of The Cultural Heritage Organization.
